Stena Line sails to Latvia on two routes. From Germany, the direct Travemünde - Liepāja service crosses the Baltic Sea; from Sweden, the shorter Nynäshamn - Ventspils crossing. There is no direct ferry to Riga; both ports are around two and a half hours by car from the capital.

In Latvia, the ferries arrive in Liepāja in the southwest (terminal on Brīvostas iela) and further north in Ventspils. From Germany you arrive in Liepāja, from Sweden in Ventspils. Both cities are well connected to the motorway network, and Riga is about two and a half hours away by car.

It depends on the route. The direct Travemünde - Liepāja ferry takes around 21 hours, so roughly a day with one night on board. The Nynäshamn - Ventspils connection from Sweden crosses the Baltic Sea in just over 9 hours, usually overnight. Exact times for your date are shown in the timetable.

As early as possible, especially in summer. In the high season from June to August, cabins and vehicle spaces on both Latvia routes go first, so it's worth booking several weeks ahead. Outside the holiday period, ships are less full and fares are lower. The booking window shows the price for your date, vehicle and cabin.

The price depends on route, travel date, vehicle and cabin, and varies significantly with the season. We don't quote fixed amounts: you'll see the current price for your connection live in the booking window on the relevant route page. Booking early and outside the summer holidays generally gets you a noticeably cheaper fare.

Recommended for the crossing to Latvia. Both routes sail overnight, so a cabin is worth booking for sleeping. Stena Line offers inside and outside cabins as well as cabins with private bathrooms; both routes also offer pet-friendly cabins. Cabins sell out early in high season, so book yours along with your ticket.

By card. Stena Line's Latvia ferries are cashless: on board you pay with standard credit and debit cards or Apple Pay and Google Pay; cash is only accepted at slot machines. Currency exchange isn't available on board, so bring a valid payment card.

Yes. Both Latvia ferries carry vehicles, from cars to motorhomes. The vehicle price depends on length and height, so you enter the full dimensions, including any attachments, when booking. Yes. Dogs and other pets travel on both routes, ideally in a pre-booked pet cabin. In public areas, dogs must be kept on a short lead and muzzled; pets aren't allowed in the restaurant or shop. A valid ID card or passport for everyone travelling, including children, plus your vehicle documents. Latvia is part of the EU and the Schengen area, so no customs formalities apply. At check-in you show your booking confirmation and ID. Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure, so arrive at the terminal in good time.
